Retta Joins NBC Soap Good Girls

Retta is returning to NBC.

The Parks and Recreation alum has signed on to star in the network’s drama pilot Good Girls, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

From Shondaland grad Jenna Bans, the project explores what happens when three “good girl” suburban wives and mothers suddenly find themselves in desperate circumstances — they decide to stop playing it safe and risk everything to take their power back.

Retta will play Ruby, a happily married wife and mother who works as a waitress at a diner. She is described as smart, likable and a protective mama bear to her 11-year-old daughter.

The actress and comedian joins a cast that includes Kathleen Rose Perkins (Episodes), Mae Whitman, Matthew Lillard, Manny Montana (Graceland) and Reno Wilson.

The role brings Retta back into the NBC fold, where she co-starred on Parks and Recreation for all seven seasons of the workplace comedy. Retta has since stayed under the same corporate umbrella, becoming a series regular on the dramedy Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce, which airs on NBC’s cable sibling Bravo and hails from Universal Cable Productions.

Currently airing it’s third season, Girlfriend’s Guide earned a three-season pickup in April 2016, taking the series through it’s fifth and final season. However, all 19 remaining episodes have been shooting back-to-back, thus freeing up the cast for the 2017-18 TV season.

Retta is repped by UTA and Silver Lining Entertainment.

From Universal Television, Good Girls will be written and exec produced by Bans.
